2010 Ford Fusion
Named Motor Trend Car of the Year!
2010 Ford Fusion

On Tuesday, November 17th, 2009, Motor Trend magazine named the 2010 Ford Fusion its car of the year, beating out 22 other competitors for the prestigious title! The Chevrolet Camaro, Toyota Prius, Buick LaCrosse, Hyundai Genesis coupe, even the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan, Lexus HS 250h, and BMW 7-Series-all of them lost.

Every year, Motor Trend selects a range of new or significantly refreshed vehicles to pick their car of the year award from. After road testing them all, they then judge the vehicles based on six different criteria: efficiency, engineering excellence, safety, design advancement, intended function, and value.

The features that landed the mid-sized Fusion this year's title were its excellent performance, comfort, and fuel-efficiency. All these traits easily make the Fusion comparable to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Motor Trend also loved that the Fusion is offered in many different versions, such as a sporty V-6 adaptation and a gas-sipping gas-electric hybrid model capable of getting 41 miles per gallon when driving in the city. In addition, reliability was also a factor, which isn't surprising considering that Consumer Reports recently gave the Fusion high scores in their reliability tests.

The Fusion's popularity can't be argued with, either. In spite of a drop in overall car sales of around 25 percent this year, the Ford Fusion saw its sales rise by 15 percent from January through October, making it the top-selling car produced by a Detroit automaker. All this led Angus MacKenzie, Motor Trend's Editor in Chief, to conclude in a statement, "Ford has proven its resilience in these tough times by delivering to market a car with broad appeal to a broad range of consumers."
